Life in Germantown stays busy. Between the I-270 commute, errands at the Town Center, and weekend games at the Maryland SoccerPlex, free time goes fast. So when you pick a gym, it needs to be easy to reach and worth the trip. Germantown sits in the heart of upcounty Montgomery County, Maryland, just up the road from our mats.


Culture of Jiu Jitsu Academy is about 20 minutes away in Gaithersburg. Most of the drive is one easy road: Clopper Road, right past Seneca Creek State Park. Our academy is led by Max Gimenis, an IBJJF World Champion and UFC fighter, and co-owner Eric Philcox, a black belt under Max.


You don't need any experience, and you don't need to be in shape first. Every program is built for true beginners. Kids, adults and women all have classes made just for them, and your first 7 days are free.

From Germantown, take Liberty Mill Road to Clopper Road (MD-117). Turn onto Clopper Road heading east toward Gaithersburg.

Stay on MD-117 for about 5 miles. You'll pass Seneca Creek State Park, and the road becomes West Diamond Avenue. Turn left onto South Summit Avenue.

Turn right onto East Diamond Avenue and follow the short turns to 220 Girard St, Suite H. Our door is on the back of the building, across from the fenced basketball court. Total trip: about 7 miles.

Yes. Every program is built for true beginners, and no experience is needed. For your first class, wear athletic clothes with no zippers and bring water. Start with our free 7-day trial pass.

Yes. Kids Jiu-Jitsu is for ages 3–12. Children train in Little Roots and Big Roots groups, so they learn next to kids their own age. No experience is needed, and your child can try a free class first.

Parking is easy. There's a large lot with lots of open spaces. Our entrance is on the back side of the building at 220 Girard St, across from the fenced basketball court.
