Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Training – Gaithersburg, MD

Become a Complete Fighter

Culture of Jiu Jitsu Academy's MMA program in Gaithersburg blends Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, wrestling, and boxing into one complete fighting system, led by head instructor Max Gimenis — a BJJ black belt, IBJJF World Champion, and UFC heavyweight competitor. Rather than treating grappling and striking as separate skills, our MMA classes teach you how they connect: how to close distance and clinch, how to defend a takedown or finish one, and how to transition from stand-up exchanges into control on the ground. Classes are built for both aspiring competitors and adults who simply want the most complete, practical training available. Every session emphasizes live, resisting practice, not choreography, because that's what makes the skills reliable under pressure. Whether you're cross-training from a single discipline or starting from zero, coaching is broken down so beginners can keep up on day one while more experienced athletes sharpen fight-specific timing and strategy.

What You’ll Develop:

  • Complete fighting ability (stand-up + ground)
  • Elite conditioning and athleticism
  • Unmatched confidence and mental toughness
  • Practical self-defense for real-world situations

Led by UFC competitor Max Gimenis and an experienced coaching staff.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at cultureofjiujitsu93@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

No. MMA classes are taught for all levels, and coaching breaks techniques down so first-timers can follow along immediately. Many members start MMA training with zero background in any combat sport; others cross-train after building a base in our BJJ or Muay Thai programs.

Athletic shorts or shorts without zippers, a rash guard or athletic shirt, and a mouthguard once you're sparring. No jewelry, and short fingernails and toenails are required for everyone's safety on the mat.

MMA classes are for adults. Younger athletes interested in the individual disciplines can start in our Kids BJJ program (ages 3–12) and move into MMA training as teens and adults.

Pricing depends on the program and schedule you choose. The best way to get exact rates is to start with our free 7-day trial pass and talk to a coach in person — reach out and we'll walk you through current options.

Classes run Monday through Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. See our live schedule page for current MMA class times, or call (410) 695-3400.
